Frequently asked questions
Is Chiropractic care dangerous?
No. Despite some common misconceptions, Chiropractic adjustments are some of the safest medical treatments you can recieve. If this myth was even slightly true, the 30 million people being treated by Chiropractors each year would be a shrinking number, not a rapidly growing one.
If you start seeing a Chiropractor, do you have to keep going for the rest of your life?
Absolutly not. The main reason many patients choose to see a Chiropractor on a regular basis is because they enjoy the healthy lifestyle they have achieved. By no means will your body break down or become dependant on care if you choose to stop treatment.
Are Chiropractors real doctors?
Yes! Chiropractors have the same level of education as medical and osteopathic doctors, and are licensed under the same physician title. Just like cardiologists are heart specialists, chiropractic physicians specialize in nerve, muscle and joint conditions.
Are corrective exercises only for injuries?
Corrective exercises do a lot more than just stretch or strengthen weak muscles after an injury or surgery. They help prevent potential problems before they lead to more serious injuries or disabling conditions—from carpal tunnel syndrome and frozen shoulder, to chronic headaches and lower back pain, to name a few.
Can I just do corrective exercises on my own?
Your participation is key to any successful treatment plan, but every patient still needs the expert care and guidance of a healthcare provider. Your doctor will leverage his or her specialized education, clinical expertise, and the latest available evidence to evaluate your needs and make a diagnosis before creating an individualized plan of care.
Chiropractic care didn't work for me in the past, why would it now?
"Traditional" chiropractic care often consists of multiple extremely short visits (2 to 5 minutes) where the patient usually only gets adjusted and is told to come back three times a week for months on end. This is NOT how we practice! We focus on addressing the funtional limitations of each patient and treat them accordingly. Your treatments will not be one size fits all adjustments. We use a variety of soft tissue techniques for muscles and tendons, adjustments and mobilizations for joint resctrictions and specialized corrective exercise protocols to ensure that your aches, pains and movement restrictions are fixed at the root of the problem.
Why don't you take X-rays?
X-Rays are diagnostic images that are often unnecessarily taken in chiropractic and even medical offices. While they may be useful in specific instances, we believe that movement and posture screens tell us much more information. Since the human body is a very mobile and active organism, taking one or even several images may not accurately tell us the full story of how your body functions. If we believe there is a need for advanced imaging you may be reffered out, but for now we'll hold off on bombarding your body with radiation.
